Choirs perform at school assemblies, school and Parish Masses, twilight concerts, other local music concerts, school fairs and Christmas concerts, retirement and nursing home visits, Grandparent's Day and other special school events. The school's concert band is made up of students from Years 5-10. Smaller ensembles are developing in guitar, strings and woodwind. Concerts & the Musical Students are given a number of opportunities during the year to experience concert making as both audience and performer. This is encouraged, as attending live performances is an important part of musical growth. Twilight concerts are held three times a year. These concerts give students the chance to experience public performance in front of a friendly audience. We offer a performance for Music, Art, Drama and Dance (MADD) Bells Shakespeare, Musica Viva and OzOpera concerts are usually given each year to St Matthews students. These performances give our students opportunity to experience professional touring shows, drama and music that they would not usually experience. Students are prepared for these concerts using lesson plans provided by the performers. At St Matthews it is a tradition to put on a school Musical every two years. Rehearsals are conducted out of class time (before school, lunch and Friday afternoons) for approximately three months. Musicals to date include:
