Welcome

St Matthews Central School, Mudgee is a Kindergarten to Year 10 Catholic systemic school within the Bathurst Diocese. Adjacent to the CBD in tree lined grounds, St Matthews is in close proximity to the Church, swimming pool and sports grounds.

Catholic Education in Mudgee has existed since 1861.

In 1874 the Sisters of Mercy arrived and the Convent was built in 1879. The original St Matthews school was built in 1912 with additions in 1936, 1957 and 1965. In September 1992 the entire pre-1965 section of the school was destroyed by fire. The present school was blessed and opened by Bishop Patrick Dougherty on Sunday 6th March, 1994.

As a Christian educational community we promote meaningful values and vision, based on the life of Jesus Christ. Our school motto is Veritas Magna et Praevalebit (Truth is Great and it will Prevail). This refers to a whole school atmosphere characterised by the search for what is true. The values are expressed not only in our Religious Education curriculum but also in the values that underpin all our Key Learning areas and co-curricular activities.
